Scalpel!

With a scalpel and forceps in hand, year 9 students actively participated in a heart dissection on Friday, week 10. They explored how the organ pumps blood throughout the body via the circulatory system, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues while also removing carbon dioxide and other wastes.

After students correctly identified the Superior vena cava and the Aorta it was time to grab the scalpel and begin the dissection to expose the four chambers; the right and left Atrium, and right and left Ventricle.

With Mrs Teng's guidance students were soon delicately slicing into the organs with surgeon like enthusiasm. I'm not quite sure they'd be ready to assist in the operating theatre, but it was enjoyable seeing their inquisitive minds imagine the possibility.
