2021 SA Training Award Finalists

Springbank Secondary College is proud to announce that two of our year 12 students have earned the honour of becoming finalists in the 2021 South Australian Training Awards.

James discovered the Certificate II in Engineering while completing his SACE mandated Personal Learning Plan (PLP) during Year 10.

While exploring career opportunities studying PLP, James discovered he was a kinesthetic learner (kinesthetic learners learn best by being actively and physically involved in their learning) and sought career opportunities that best suited his learning style. With his longstanding passion for practical work, James seemed destined to work in the engineering industry, ensuring his pathway to such a career was advanced through his employment with BAE Systems Maritime Australia and the recent completion of his Cert III in Engineering – Fabrication trades.

Kayla’s desire to work in a child related industry drove her commitment to Vocational Education and Training (VET) undertaking a school-based Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care traineeship.

Kayla has undertaken a workplace learning agreement placement at Happy Haven OSHC in Mitcham, which has given her the opportunity to experience the industry and its suitability to her future career goals. Kayla states "It was evident the moment I walked through the door that this was the industry for me".

While continuing her traineeship in 2021, she is now completing a Certificate IV in School Age Education and Care and enjoying her peer support role and the administrative side of the industry.

Our congratulations go to James and Kayla for their dedication to their studies and commitment to continual learning and growth.
