To encourage and support the development of individual Springbank Secondary College Basketball Academy students, and in collaboration with Basketball SA, up to four scholarships will be offered in 2023 in accordance with the Basketball SA agreement.

In partnership with Basketball SA and Flinders University, the aim of the Springbank Basketball Academy is to provide student athletes access to:
Quality experienced coaching and teaching
A culture of excellence that supports player development that compliments their community engagement
A focus on individual skill development in regards to shooting, finishing around the basket, play making skills, individual and team defence and decision making
The use of technology to assist in skill acquisition and player development
Leadership opportunities to work effectively in teams
Sport science introduction - fitness, nutrition, performance analysis
Community coaching accreditation
Opportunity to develop lifelong character traits and habits that will benefit student athletes throughout their sporting and future pathways
Middle School
The Basketball Academy is embedded in the Health and Physical Education curricula of the Australian Curriculum. The program provides quality experienced coaching in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Flinders University’s functional screening program and testing is provided to increase player performance and durability through a strength and conditioning program.
In partnership with Flinders University and Basketball SA, Springbank Secondary College is developing a High Performance Basketball program which aims to include:
Personal learning plan with a basketball and pathway focus
Opportunity to apply for a scholarship sponsored by Basketball SA
Strength and conditioning
Coaching and accreditation
The use of technology to assist skill acquisition
Sports nutrition
Injury prevention
Performance development and analysis
Senior School
At senior school, students will be enrolled in Stage 1 or Stage 2 using a school designed Integrated Learning Program. The course will include both practical and theoretical components for students pursuing university entrance or sport industry work pathways.
Topics covered in the program include:
Fitness, strength and conditioning
Skill acquisition - Flinders University
Coaching and accreditation
Planning and delivering basketball competitions
Continued personal learning plan and pathway support
Selection Criteria and Student Commitments
Students will be required to attend the nominated try outs as per the school website. In addition, a coach’s reference will be submitted.
Successful applicants will be required to meet all subject requirements, by demonstrating consistent academic effort and achievement.
Students are expected to compete for school competitions throughout the year.
